I don't think I've even bought 5 albums that were released this year. Here are the ones that I can remember buying:
British Sea Power - Open Season Seth Lakeman - Kitty Jay Eels - Blinking Lights and Other Revelations Weezer - Make Believe Sufjan Stevens - Illionoise
Good coincidence, that makes 5. If I bought any more, I can't remember them and therefore they must have been crap.

Oh I forgot about Malkmus! Thanks for remind me Niels. I agree with Make Believe being stinker of the year, I went through a period of liking it but it didn't last.

You reminded me to check out that Seth Lakeman album Billy, I heard some of it at my brother's over Christmas and was suitably impressed.

Yeah, I only bought 4 actual new releases this year. I'm playing catch up, plus I've gotten too old to really like most of the new stuff that comes out.

I checked, and double-checked to make sure, and I only really heard one new album of 2005. And that was "BL&OR", naturally.
I spent the year exploring '60s British rock. The Who, the Kinks, &c., &c., and Britpop stuff I missed in the '90s. And Tom Waits.
It was a helluva year. I consolidated so much music history into convenient pill form. Mmm.

I checked, and double-checked to make sure, and I only really heard one new album of 2005. And that was "BL&OR", naturally. That's the only new CD I got. I spent the year exploring dead guys like Johnny Cash, George Harrison, Ray Charles, and Roy Orbison. Wait! I did buy one more new CD...That duet thingie Ray Charles did before he died. I like it a lot. Hmmmm. I think I need to listen to that now.

That's the only new CD I got. Wait! I did buy one more new CD... You make me feel guilty about how much I spend on CDs in a year. I just counted and I bought 23 in 2005. Is that addiction-bad? Or just average? Do other people spend this much? Its only roughly 2 per month. In my defence I got most of them for around $20 and a couple in double-packs for the same price. But still.

I reckon I've bought more than 23 CDs this year, but only a couple were released this year. I've been mostly discovering older stuff, the current crop hasn't really floated my boat.

The new Weezer album really sucked, guess they never will be the same again, too bad 'cause they CD's before that really ruled, they reminded me of Fountains of Wayne, si poppy.
Anyway my top is 1. Sufjan Stevens - Illinoise 2. Silver mt. Zion - Horses in the Sky 3. eels - BLAOR 4. Tom McRae - All Maps welcome 5. Sigur Ros - Takk 6. Royksopp - the Understanding
