I really love google earth and would like some new places to fly to. How can we share without the whole world finding our addresses? edit: i don't think i'd mind the people that post on this board knowing it but NOT Vagrant or whomever else might be watching...

How spooky you should start this topic - this morning, I come across a Beta version for Mac, finally (sssh, it's a secret), but Rapidshare is being naughty and won't load. I want to stalk, dammit.

I wasn't impressed with google earth. It doens't show my area in nearly enough detail. It's all country-side coloured blurs with no evidence of human habitation. It doesn't even show my house, which is one of the two Kentish landmarks visible from space.

If the new Doctor Who is any guide, the aliens are gunning for England, and that will make you a major targe.

Hah, well that's because England is the best at everything and the aliens want to live here more than anywhere else. (Incidentally, the other kentish landmark visible from space is my ego)

Hooray! I finally got the link working and found my house And Butterfly, I'm pretty sure when it was released our area was the same, and only recently became high-definition.

I hated google earth when it came out for the same reason, and I doubt they'll have updated the pic for my little corner of the earth yet. Although I guess I could look at my uni residence . . . And eris, I meant to have a convo with you about the christmas Doctor Who, but forgot (unless I had it whilst drunk and don't remember), sorry, and the moment has passed now anyway.

and maple here are my other favorite public sites: Beijing, China (look around for all the temples!) Mt. St. Helen's Volcano in Washington State The Grand Canyon, (if you do it just right you can "fly" along the bottom) Niagara Falls Well, I have others but I'm not sure you'd find them all that interesting Anybody want to share more cool sites? I love looking at them ;D Here's a challenge: someone fine The Great Wall for me. I just can't locate it. edit: sjaakie, i can't see yours very well, too small. can you edit? re-edit: i've never been able to locate any friend's addresses in Britain other than a big blur

Here's a challenge: someone fine The Great Wall for me. I just can't locate it. I believe it's very difficult to see even to the trained eye from space; the conditions have to be pretty good to locate it, even if you know where to look. It probably also explains why nobody has pinned it already. I just imagine the quality of the image isn't good enough. It's only visible from space in really good conditions, basically. I could of course be wrong, though, and be looking staight at it.

Well on navigating the horrible place that is the Google Earth Community Board, I have this - the Link (open placemark) in there will open up in google earth, and is useful for finding the wall.

Thankyou Patsy. Although I have to say, I think the wall beside my house is more impressive on this program.
